I have been teaching periodically for over 10 years in language schools, community education settings, privately and online. I have taught at every level and every age group, ranging from pre-school to the elderly.
I often prepare students for the various Cambridge exams.
I have also volunteered extensively as an ESOL teacher / classroom assistant for migrant people and their children.
I use a variety of teaching materials from traditional text books to trusted online resources and smartphone apps. I encourage blended learning wherever possible.
Whilst I give equal credence to speaking, listening, reading and writing, I have a particular interest in communicative teaching methods.
Although I do not have a full university degree, I am committed, hardworking and trustworthy. I am always willing to learn and improve as a teacher.
At 48, I bring my life experience and my genuine desire for people to fulfil their English learning potential - Whether this is to gain a place at an English speaking university; expand their international businesses; live and work abroad; integrate and immerse themselves into a new culture; help their children with their homework or to enjoy singing along to their favourite songs in English - It is of all equal importance and relevance to the individual learner.
Every student I meet teaches me something new or reteaches me something I thought I already knew ...
I am dyslexic and dyspraxic. I was only assessed at the ages of 38 and 45 respectively, after I had already begun to teach English. Today, I use my SpLDs as an asset. I am always striving to make my lessons as learner-friendly and creative as possible. I absolutely believe that acquiring another language is achievable and can be enjoyable, in spite of our diverse learning styles.
I always welcome the opportunity to teach those with SpLDs.
Please note: I sign out of LinkedIn over the weekends and on public holidays.
